On behalf of the Mount Vernon - Knox County Chamber of Commerce, welcome to our county, located in the heart of Ohio. Apple Valley, Centerburg, Danville, Fredericktown, Gambier, Howard and Mount Vernon are several communities within Knox County that we're proud to call home. Each of these areas can point with pride to character and charm all their own that together make Knox County a very special place to live.

Knox County, Ohio is located in central Ohio, within 500 miles of over two-thirds of the population of the United States. It is less than an hour's drive to Columbus, the state's capital, home to Ohio State University and the 15th largest city in America. But for all its access to large urban areas, Knox County is one of rural charm and bedroom communities.

People looking to live in Knox County should set their expectations high. In an area as beautiful as Knox County, residents find peace, enjoy location, value safety and have a great appreciation for the many unique recreational opportunities that exist.

Citizens take pride in their community, as demonstrated by their involvement in schools, religious affiliations, social services, associations and government. Scenic byways, bike paths, covered bridges and preserved farmland offer abundant natural beauty. Community concerts, festivals and theatre enhance the quality of life in Knox County.

In addition to its five excellent k-12 school districts, Knox County is fortunate to have three institutions of higher learning. Gambier is home to Kenyon College, the oldest private liberal arts college in Ohio. Mount Vernon boasts the prestigious Mount Vernon Nazarene University and the growing Central Ohio Technical College with its campus in the heart of Downtown.

Agriculture has a long history in Knox County and its production accounts for about 62 percent of current land use. The county's hilly topography supports a diverse agriculture business from wheat, corn and soybeans to dairy and sheep.

While growth continues in the county, community leadership has placed an equal importance on the quality of life that makes Knox County so special. Opportunities for business and industry and a growing social climate help maintain a well-balanced environment to live, work, play and raise a family.

We invite you to visit Knox County and see for yourself why we're so proud. If you'd like an information packet, please call the chamber of commerce at 740-393-1111.
