-- MTVarts is once again making theatre. Rodgers & Hammerstein's ?The Sound of Music? will take the stage at Knox Memorial, 112 East High Street, Mount Vernon, July 10 - 18. Seven performances will be offered with two Sunday afternoon matinees.
Now in its 15th year, and after cancelling its 2020 season due to COVID-19, MTVarts? actors, production staff and technical crew are more than ready to bring entertainment back to central Ohio. ?We survived a tough year because of our passionate and loyal audience, volunteers and patrons,? said Janis Stone, MTVarts producer. ?We can?t wait to be together again, sharing the experience of live theater.?
?The Sound of Music? is one of the most beloved musicals of all time. In Austria, 1938, an exuberant young governess brings music and joy back to a broken family, only to face danger and intrigue as the Nazis gain power. Artistic Director, Bruce Jacklin says, "I am excited to rediscover this inspiring story of family, faith, joy, and courage in a world of uncertain times."
The final collaboration between Rodgers & Hammerstein won the hearts of audiences worldwide and features a trove of cherished songs, including "Climb Ev'ry Mountain," "My Favorite Things," "Do Re Mi," "Sixteen Going on Seventeen," "I Have Confidence" and the title number, "The Sound of Music." The inspirational story, based on the memoir of Maria Augusta Trapp, follows an ebullient postulate who serves as governess to the seven children of the imperious Captain Von Trapp, bringing music and joy to the household. But as the forces of Nazism take hold of Austria, Maria and the entire Von Trapp family must make a moral decision.
Leads actors include: Abigail Tayse (Maria); Steve Herbst (Captain Von Trapp); Mackenzie Leland
Eli Wilson, Cora McFadden, Ellie Salvucci, Briggs Swallow, Jillian Snow and Gwen Brady (Von Trapp children); Thor Collard (Max Detweiler), Megan Evans (Elsa Schraeder) and Rebecca Keck (Mother Superior). Support will be provided by a live orchestra and talented ensemble of actors from all over central Ohio.
Tickets are $25 main floor, $20 balcony with a $3 discount for children 10 and under and can be purchased online at MTVarts.com or at Park National Bank in downtown Mount Vernon. Anyone interested in group pricing should contact ticketing@mountvernonartsconsortium.org.
